The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed her condolences for the passing of Pope Francis and highlighted his work as a spiritual leader close to the most needy. During her morning conference on Monday, Sheinbaum emphasized that Pope Francis will be remembered as a great humanist, who chose the poorest and promoted fraternity among people and nations. "Of course, our sorrow for the passing of Pope Francis. Beyond religion, we are clearly a secular state, but we have always defended Pope Francis for his humanism and his vision for the humblest," she emphasized.
The President announced that a tribute to Pope Francis would be presented at the morning conference on Tuesday, highlighting his role beyond the religious sphere. "Well, tomorrow we will also do a tribute to Pope Francis. Pope Francis was a humanist, a man who was always close to the humblest, to the poor," Sheinbaum mentioned. She stressed that even in his last moments, the pontiff maintained a message of peace. "Yesterday, his message was still for peace," the President recalled.
The Secretary of Foreign Affairs (SRE) joined in the condolences for the passing of Pope Francis, deeply lamenting the loss of the first Latin American pope and head of state of the Vatican City. The SRE sent its condolences to the Pope's family and to those who considered him their spiritual leader.
