Mexico's President Declines Vatican Funeral Attendance

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed that she will not attend the funeral of Pope Francis, who passed away on Monday, in person at the Vatican. International leaders such as Donald Trump, President of the United States, and Keir Starmer, British Prime Minister, have confirmed their attendance at the event. Representing Mexico, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, head of the Secretariat of the Interior (Segob), will attend the funeral that will take place next Saturday, April 26, in St. Peter's Square.

Shortly before the funeral, several international leaders confirmed their presence. Donald Trump, who will travel with his wife Melania, expressed his condolences and blessings. On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also plans to travel to Rome to pay tribute to Pope Francis. He highlighted the pope's commitment to peace in Ukraine and his support for the population.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the King and Queen of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia, will be present at the funeral. In contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan to attend the burial of Pope Francis despite having praised Francis' positive attitude towards Russia on previous occasions. Putin, who met with the pope three times, will stick to his plans in Russia.
