Ernestina Godoy, legal advisor to the Presidency, and Arturo Zaldívar, retired minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, detailed in the morning conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum the functioning of the Federal Judiciary in the context of the first judicial election in the history of Mexico.
In this process, different members of the Federal Judiciary will be elected on June 1st. Among the positions at stake are 881 in courts, tribunals, the new Judicial Discipline Tribunal, the Electoral Tribunal, and the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation. A record 99.7 million voters are called to participate, competing 3,422 citizens for these positions.
The election campaigns for this unusual election are already underway and will last for 60 days, concluding on May 28th. However, concerns have arisen from various sectors regarding possible interference from the Executive and organized crime in the elections and the judicial system.
In response to questions and doubts from citizens about the voting processes, the Government has provided a detailed explanation at Palacio Nacional. Ernestina Godoy and Arturo Zaldívar clarified aspects such as the structure of the Federal Judiciary, the number of ballots that will be used, and how to identify them during the electoral day.
