Claudia Sheinbaum Critiques Judge's Ruling for Ex-Governor

In a morning press conference, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, criticized the amparo granted by a judge to the former governor of Michoacán, Silvano Aureoles. This amparo allows the ex-official to be protected against any arrest order, as long as he pays a bond of 52 thousand pesos. The request for this measure was made by Aureoles on April 21, after Interpol issued a red notice against him. The former governor had been sought since March 2, when an arrest warrant was issued against him, along with four of his former collaborators, who had already been detained.

In her intervention, Sheinbaum pointed out that the corruption case against Aureoles was evident, as the Attorney General's Office had determined it before she took office. The leader emphasized that she considered it unjustifiable for a judge to have granted this amparo to the former governor. The state government revealed that the construction company in charge of the projects left unfinished and abandoned work in Michoacán, which affected the community.

Various sources confirmed that, in addition to Silvano Aureoles, Carlos Maldonado Mendoza, Mario Delgado Murillo, Elizabeth Villegas Pineda, and José Antonio Bernal Bustamante were detained. These former officials face accusations related to an alleged overpricing in the construction of seven state police stations valued at 5 billion 186 million pesos, which had been registered as leases, according to the investigation carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Combating Corruption of the FGR.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, confirmed the existence of an Interpol red notice for the capture of Silvano Aureoles and expressed the possibility that the former governor may have left the country to avoid facing criminal charges in Mexico. Authorities are coordinating efforts to achieve the detention of the ex-official and to follow up on the corruption case he is involved in.
