The Jalisco State Attorney's Office reported that it is pursuing various lines of investigation in the case of the murder of a mother searching for missing persons and her son in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga. Among the hypotheses being explored are the activist work of the woman and the direct aggression against her son.
The group Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco denounced the tragic death of María del Carmen Morales, 43 years old, and her son Jaime Daniel Ramírez Morales, 26 years old, who belonged to the organization and had made significant findings in the past. The Attorney's Office stated in a statement that there are still no concrete indications that the crimes are related to the mother's search for missing persons.
The attack took place at 11:30 PM local time on Wednesday in Tlajomulco, and according to the investigation, the perpetrators went directly for young Jaime, with his mother attempting to protect him during the attack. The search group described María del Carmen Morales as a tireless fighter for justice for her son Ernesto Julián Ramírez, who has been missing since February 2024.
On the other hand, President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her sorrow over the murder of the mother searcher and her son, urging Jalisco authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. These tragic events highlight the violence faced by families of missing persons in Mexico, with a total of 27 searchers killed and three missing since 2010, according to data from a research project.
In Mexico, the number of missing persons exceeds 127,000, according to the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO). The concern for security and the context of violence in the country continues to be a priority issue that requires decisive action from the competent authorities.
