The president, at a security conference, highlighted that there was a 32.9% decrease in the daily homicide rate during her administration. While in September an average of 86.9 daily murders was recorded, in April it reduced to 58.3. Despite this decrease, the perception of insecurity among the population has increased to 61.9%, according to Inegi data.

The opposition has questioned these figures, pointing out that more than 120,000 people are missing, according to the National Search Commission, which would indicate an underreporting of homicides. Ricardo Anaya from PAN has denounced that important information is being withheld from the public.

According to an analysis by EFE, intentional homicides in Mexico have decreased by 5.04% year-on-year in the first quarter of the year and by 9.5% during the first half of Claudia Sheinbaum's presidency. During the first six months of her administration, 14,102 homicides have been recorded, 1,481 fewer than in the last semester of the previous government.

Despite this decrease, in March there was a 10.39% increase compared to February. Seven states account for more than half of the homicides in the country during Sheinbaum's tenure: Guanajuato, Baja California, State of Mexico, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Guerrero, and Jalisco.

Sheinbaum's government has implemented a new security strategy based on intelligence and the detention of violence generators. The president focuses on addressing the causes of violence, strengthening the National Guard, using intelligence against crime, and coordinating actions between federal and state authorities. The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection will appear in the Senate to support this National Public Security Strategy.
