The Attorney General's Office of the State of Jalisco is conducting an investigation into the murder of José Luis Pereira Robles, secretary general of the Teocaltiche City Council. The municipal official was shot in a seafood restaurant in the Centro neighborhood on Monday afternoon and was declared dead at the scene.
According to preliminary information, Pereira Robles was at the restaurant with a councilor from the municipality, who was unharmed in the attack. Witnesses reported that a man on a motorcycle shot directly at the municipal official before fleeing.
This tragic event follows the murder of the Public Safety Commissioner of Teocaltiche last April, as well as other cases of disappearances and murders of police officers in the area since last year.
The state leader of the PRI, Laura Haro Ramírez, expressed her shock at the death of Pereira Robles and demanded justice from the security authorities, as well as a prompt investigation into the case. On her social media, she mourned the loss of a dedicated and generous collaborator.
"We call on state and federal authorities to clarify this cowardly act and to strengthen security measures in Teocaltiche," expressed Haro Ramírez.
For its part, the municipal government of Teocaltiche, led by Margarita Villalobos, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the murder. Meanwhile, it is expected that the Attorney General's Office will continue investigations to clarify the facts and bring those responsible to justice.
