Sheinbaum to Expose Fobaproa Corruption Tomorrow

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced in her morning conference that tomorrow, Wednesday, April 30, she will address the corruption of the Fobaproa, a case linked to a deep economic crisis during the presidency of Ernesto Zedillo. The announcement came a day after the president responded to the criticisms from the former president regarding the judicial election.

"Our political opponents, leaders of opposition parties, intellectuals who were linked to power for years, who cannot understand how it is possible that we no longer pay attention to them or that the people of Mexico do not pay attention to them because they were favored with a lot of money for many years, media commentators, now the constant refrain they have is that we are an authoritarian government," Sheinbaum expressed in her intervention.

This Tuesday, targeting Zedillo and his presidency, the president pointed out that as a result of Fobaproa, millions of families lost everything, rescuing businessmen instead of the people, converting private debts into public debt that is still being paid. Sheinbaum promised to reveal who benefited from Fobaproa and how much each Mexican is paying starting tomorrow.

"He (Ernesto Zedillo) enters the government, warns a group of businessmen that the peso is going to be devalued, as a result, they withdraw a large amount of money and cause an even greater crisis than what was going to happen," Sheinbaum explained. The president highlighted that the presidency of the PRI member was riddled with corruption, resulting in "very large family tragedies."

"You cannot speak so impudently, he says that Fobaproa was reviewed, who believes him?" Sheinbaum questioned.
