According to intelligence reports, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho', hides in Villa Purificación, Jalisco, close to Colima and Michoacán. In that place, in 2015, an operation was launched to capture him, during which a military helicopter was shot down by a missile launcher operated by someone from his criminal group. Born in Michoacán on July 17, 1966, he is believed to reside in that area.
The Jalisco Attorney General's Office has formalized the prosecution for apology of the crime against Los Alegres del Barranco, a musical group that recently dedicated a song to 'El Mencho' during a concert at the Piña Fair. The group had honored the criminal leader in a previous recital at the Telmex Auditorium, which generated controversy and led to the opening of the investigation.
The group members refused to testify before the Jalisco Attorney General's Office regarding their performance at the Telmex Auditorium and, more recently, at the Piña Fair. Although they are accused of apology of the crime, there is currently no arrest warrant against them. This crime is established when a criminal act or its author is glorified, or the commission of a criminal act is openly promoted.
It has been mentioned that 'El Mencho' built a hospital in the community of El Alcíhuatl, in Villa Purificación, to be treated for a kidney deficiency. However, this facility turned out to be a community health center owned by the Jalisco Health Department. During a visit by a journalism team to the area, hostile reactions from residents were recorded, most of whom are dedicated to agriculture and livestock.
