Fidel Herrera, former governor of Veracruz, passed away at the age of 76, according to Manuel Velasco, senator of the PVEM. In a message, Velasco lamented the loss of his "great friend" and highlighted Herrera Beltrán's career as an exceptional political figure who served Mexico with passion. "Rest in peace," expressed the former governor of Chiapas.

Fidel Herrera Beltrán was born on March 7 in Nopaltepec, Veracruz. He served as governor of Veracruz from December 1, 2004, to November 30, 2010. Later, he was consul of Mexico in Barcelona, Spain, from October 2015 to January 2017, when he resigned from the position.

During his term, Herrera was alleged to have links to the Los Zetas cartel. Additionally, he is the father of Javier Herrera Borunda, who is a federal deputy for the Green Ecology Party of Mexico. In response to the news of Fidel Herrera's passing, Manuel Velasco expressed his condolences and solidarity towards Javier Herrera and his family.
