The political party Morena has officially prohibited nepotism in candidacies for the 2027 elections, even for those candidates who come through coalitions. During its National Congress, rules were established to avoid becoming a State party, including the prohibition of links with organized crime.
In a press conference, the national president of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, explained that five axes were established based on a letter sent by president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The importance of always acting with honesty and simplicity was highlighted, as well as the need to work alongside the people to establish clear rules for the 2027 elections.
The importance of maintaining unity among militants was emphasized, prohibiting any type of public denouncement. For his part, Alfonso Durazo, president of the National Congress, mentioned that it is legitimate for all members to participate and that the rules aim to prevent growth at the expense of other colleagues.
Special emphasis was placed on the need to avoid republican austerity, the prohibition of any links with organized crime, and the non-inheritance of positions in 2027. Alcalde Luján clarified that these rules will also apply to candidates coming from coalition parties.
Additionally, austerity norms were established, ranging from not using private jets to avoiding ostentatious public acts. Furthermore, it was prohibited to receive resources from private agents or to favor their interests to guarantee the independence of the de facto powers.
Regarding the criticisms of the established rules, Alcalde Luján stated that they are not directed at any particular person and reiterated the importance of respecting the rules to maintain the integrity of the party.
