Citizen Movement Demands Clarity on Indicted Mayor

The Citizen Movement of Jalisco has demanded that federal authorities investigate and verify the allegations directed at the municipal president of Teuchitlán, José Ascensión Murguía Santiago. He is accused of having alleged ties to organized crime and being involved in forced disappearances on behalf of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

In a recently published statement, the party expressed its confidence that federal authorities should demonstrate the accusations and dispel any doubts. They also emphasized the importance of the mayor demonstrating that he has always acted within the legal framework. The state leadership of the Citizen Movement pointed out that the events that took place at Rancho Izaguirre have shocked society, but reiterated that violence and impunity have deep roots and require decisive intervention from the Federation.

The political party affirmed its firm defense of the presumption of innocence and the right of all individuals to a fair trial, especially in the case of the mayor. Additionally, they requested that the investigation be impartial, comprehensive, and not influenced by political bias or partisan motivations.

José Ascensión Murguía Santiago was arrested on May 3 and presented before a federal judge at the Puente Grande prison last Sunday. He was charged with the alleged crimes of organized crime against the community and forced disappearances. He is accused of actively collaborating with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, allegedly facilitating its operations in Teuchitlán through omissions, direct protection, and cover-up.
