Claudia Sheinbaum Warns Morena Against Past Mistakes

Claudia Sheinbaum urged Morena not to repeat history of the PRI, highlighting the need for humility and integrity. She raised concerns over corruption and electoral conduct ahead of the 2027 elections.

President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico urged the Morena party not to fall into past mistakes, avoiding replicating the history of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). Controversy arose over the possible early campaign of Senator Andrea Chávez in Chihuahua, who seeks to be Morena's candidate for the governorship in 2027. In response to criticisms of Chávez, linked to Adán Augusto López, Sheinbaum urged Morena members not to rush into the electoral race.

At a press conference, Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of ensuring that Morena does not become a state party or collaborate with organized crime and criminals. She compared the structure of Morena, based on individual memberships, to the PRI's corporate model, where various organizations influenced decisions. The president reminded that power requires humility and integrity.

The letter sent by Sheinbaum to Morena served as a basis for the agreements presented by the national president of the party, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, during the National Council. In the text, Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of maintaining closeness with the citizens to preserve the honesty of the movement. Favoritism, influence peddling, and nepotism were prohibited, and it was ensured that Morena has no links with organized crime groups.

Sheinbaum also called for establishing clear rules for future candidates, avoiding wasteful spending on electoral advertising, and ensuring republican austerity in governments. Morena decided to prohibit the inheritance of political positions in 2027, as part of its commitment to transparency and renewal.
