30-Year Sentences for Venezuelan Women in Mexico

Two Venezuelan women, identified as Yubisay ā€œSā€ and Arianny ā€œVā€, were sentenced to 30 years in prison for the crime of human trafficking and aggravated sexual exploitation against four compatriots whom they persuaded to travel to Mexico to engage in prostitution. The sentence was obtained by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Crimes of Violence against Women, Vulnerable Groups, and Human Trafficking (FEVIMTRA).

The legal process began in May 2020 with the opening of the investigation file, which culminated in the imposed sentence. The Trial Court, attached to the Federal Criminal Justice Center based in the Reclusorio Oriente, sentenced the accused to 30 years in prison, as well as the payment of 1,526,683 pesos as compensation for the damage caused.

Authorities were able to prove that the women deceived the victims by persuading them to travel to Mexico with the false promise of engaging in prostitution. After being arrested in April 2022 by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Miami, Florida, they were handed over to Mexican authorities to face the charges against them.
