The municipal president of Teuchitlán, Jalisco, José Ascensión N, was arrested over the weekend as part of his indictment in the Izaguirre Ranch case. After the arrest, his lawyer, Carlos Santos, mentioned that Murguía Santiago "is calm, given the circumstances". The initial hearing took place on Sunday, May 4, at the Federal Criminal Justice Center in Jalisco, where preventive detention was ordered for the mayor while his legal situation is resolved.

The lawyer indicated that the next hearing will take place on Friday and that an extension of the constitutional term was requested to determine José Ascensión's legal situation. He emphasized that the case will be complex and that the authorities will be responsible for resolving it impartially. Murguía was accused of being the alleged material author of the operation within the Izaguirre Ranch, where, according to the Attorney General's Office, he received a sum of 70,000 pesos monthly for his alleged connection with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Authorities also point to the mayor for being aware of what was happening at the Izaguirre Ranch and considering him a key figure in the operations of the criminal group. The charges against him include organized crime to the detriment of the community and forced disappearance. Following the arrest, the Government of Jalisco issued a statement expressing its confidence that the Attorney General's Office will carry out investigations impartially, without political influences, and committed to collaborating in the judicial process to uncover the truth and achieve justice.
