Fernández Noroña Raises Concerns Over Candidate Eligibility

In a recent statement, Fernández Noroña highlighted issues concerning candidate eligibility within the Morena party and the National Electoral Institute's actions. He expressed his disagreement with new legislative tourism restrictions and the need for transparency in candidate evaluations.

The president of the Senate Board, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, expressed his disagreement with the recently approved guidelines by his party Morena. In particular, he opposed the prohibition of "legislative tourism," mentioning that his attendance at a meeting of the Council of Europe was crucial to avoid a vote against the election of the Judiciary.

Fernández Noroña emphasized that the Legislature has already identified the candidates who lack the required suitability for judicial elections. Now, this task is in the hands of the electoral authority, as he indicated during a video call with supporters.

Regarding the criticisms against him, the Morena legislator lamented that rumors about him are being spread, such as the alleged veto preventing officials or legislators from the movement from flying first class. He dismissed these comments as "political maneuvers" and expressed his compliance with the assigned responsibilities.

On the other hand, both the presidency of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies requested the National Electoral Institute (INE) to dismiss 26 candidates for various reasons, including investigations by the Attorney General's Office and failure to meet established requirements.

Additionally, the INE has enabled a microsite on its official page for citizens to report questionable candidacies, especially those that do not comply with the required affirmative actions. An evaluation of the complaints received is expected to be carried out on May 12, and finally, the Electoral Tribunal will decide on the cases of the indicated candidates.

Amid this situation, Fernández Noroña remained firm in his opinions and actions, reiterating his stance on current events and making clear his disagreement with certain aspects of Morena's party guidelines.
