Infonavit Reform: A Step Towards Decent Housing in Mexico

The reform to Infonavit, backed by Concanaco Servytur, seeks to guarantee access to decent housing in Mexico through dialogue and collaboration among sectors. The commitment is to build one million homes during the administration.

Ensuring access to decent housing in Mexico is a challenge that goes beyond mere intentions; it involves responsibility, informed dialogue, and collaboration among all parties involved. The reform to Infonavit promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum, and approved by the Congress of the Union, has been supported by Concanaco Servytur. This position is devoid of political or ideological bias.

The Secretary of Labor, Marath Bolaños, has expanded Concanaco's participation in the governing bodies of Infonavit, which allows for more effective oversight of the implementation of the reform. Through this collaboration, the goal is to ensure that the housing built is viable, affordable, and adequate. Despite other business organizations not sharing this position, Concanaco maintains that its support is grounded in technical, legal, and evidence-based criteria.

The reform to Infonavit strengthens housing schemes, broadens access options—including social leasing—improves financial planning, and creates new tools for construction in collaboration with local governments. The dialogue with the government is presented as a shared responsibility that seeks to guarantee the right to decent housing in an orderly, effective, and responsible manner.

Concanaco, which represents more than five million businesses in the tertiary sector in Mexico, is committed to active and evidence-based representation. The shared goal is to build one million homes during the current administration, which requires a solid operational network and the active participation of all parties involved. During the legislative process, Concanaco proposed improvements that were incorporated into the final text of the reform, in open dialogue with various government entities and relevant stakeholders.
