President Donald Trump stated during a press conference the possibility of renegotiating or even ending the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) next year. Trump emphasized the importance of making some adjustments to the trade agreement and mentioned that his administration will seek to implement subtle changes to the treaty.

During a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump stressed that the USMCA has been beneficial for all the countries involved, however, he pointed out that it is necessary for the terms of the agreement to be fully respected. Carney also emphasized that some aspects of the treaty will need to be modified.

On the other hand, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with feeling that the USMCA has not been fully respected and mentioned the possibility of discussing new elements in the treaty review in 2026. Despite the doubts raised by Trump, the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, rejected the idea of a fracture with the United States, although she highlighted that some suggestions from the U.S. president are considered unacceptable.

In summary, the possibility remains that the USMCA may be subject to changes in the future, following Trump's statements about the need to adjust or even terminate the treaty next year.
