Arrest of Teuchitlán Mayor Sparks Political Shift

The arrest of the emecista mayor of Teuchitlán, José Ascensión Murguía Santiago, has generated new movements in the legal case seeking to clarify what happened at the Izaguirre ranch. It has been proposed that by 2027, Acción Nacional will seek to mitigate the consequences of Murguía's arrest in order to prevent the scandal from negatively impacting the orange party.

José Murguía, who has ties to the state leadership of Movimiento Ciudadano and national figures such as Senator Clemente Castañeda, is under arrest. According to sources close to both parties, efforts are being made to divert attention from the detained mayor and strengthen the theory linking the Izaguirre ranch with Morena.

Amid this situation, the national leader of Movimiento Ciudadano, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, has remained silent so far regarding the arrest of a member of his party. There is a good relationship between Álvarez and Jorge Romero, national president of the PAN, which could facilitate a possible political agreement leading up to the 2027 elections.

Neither MC nor PAN shows a willingness to highlight the case of the detained mayor. On the other hand, the opposition questions the new implications presented by prosecutor Alejandro Gertz Manero and demands an investigation into the possible links between organized crime and Morena, at both local and federal levels.

Nationally, a contrast has been noted in PAN's positions before and after the discovery of the Izaguirre ranch and the detention of José Murguía. While there were initially strong accusations, the tension later decreased. Federico Döring, a federal deputy of the PAN, has mentioned that José Murguía would be a "scapegoat" and that trying to reduce the complexity of the situation is an insult to the intelligence of the Mexican population.

It has been speculated that the decrease in the intensity of PAN's denunciations may be related to the intention to establish a political and electoral agreement with Movimiento Ciudadano for the upcoming elections, due to the poor results obtained in the alliance with the PRI.
