Adrián Rubalcava Appointed New Director of Mexico City Metro

Adrián Rubalcava has been appointed as the new director of the Collective Transport System (STC) Metro of Mexico City, following the resignation of Guillermo Calderón. Rubalcava, who is the president of the Public Administration Commission, mayor of Cuajimalpa de Morelos from 2018 to 2024, and head of the Policies and Strategies Unit for Peacebuilding with Federative Entities and Regions, has taken on this role with several challenges ahead.

The mayor of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, mentioned the importance of Metro maintenance, particularly highlighting the need to invest in it. She emphasized the current challenges in the Metro, including the urgency to improve and renew Line 1 to ensure its optimal functioning, which has not yet been completed. Despite the challenges, it is expected that Rubalcava, with his experience in public administration, can significantly contribute to improving the STC Metro lines.

On the other hand, Andrés Atayde from PAN expressed the need for a change in the Metro's management and wished Rubalcava success in his new responsibility. However, he pointed out that they will be critical if efficient work is not carried out, particularly considering the maintenance issues and the constant service failures, such as the known "punctures" at the stations.

The challenges Rubalcava will face in his new position include improving Line 3 and Line A of the Metro by 2025, resolving the failures in the escalators and elevators, reinforcing security in the Metro with the presence of more police, and combating incidents of "punctures" at the stations.

Adrián Rubalcava, born in Mexico City in 1977, is a lawyer with master's degrees in Public Administration and Public Security, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Public Administration. His career includes various positions in public administration, from director in the Álvaro Obregón Delegation to local deputy in Mexico City.

Despite the doubts expressed by some lawmakers about his appointment, Rubalcava has been selected to lead the STC Metro, and it is expected that his experience and knowledge will contribute to improving public transport service in the capital.
