The LXI local legislature is waiting for the bill initiative to combat sexual tourism in the state to be submitted, which was presented this Monday by the state governor, Mauricio Kuri. Gerardo Ángeles Herrera, president of the Board of Directors, commented that although the details of the document are not yet known, the issue will be a priority, as it involves coordinated work between the tourism sector and state authorities.
"We are waiting for them to report the submission, we don’t have it yet, but of course it is a priority for the state congress, everything that pertains to the protection of girls, boys, and adolescents, we will work for them," he asserted.
He emphasized that, from what has been discussed, it is about combating sexual crimes committed against this sector of the population, so forums will need to be held with all stakeholders, agencies, businesses, and society in general.
However, he pointed out that the legislative process will also depend on the committee to which it is referred; nonetheless, he reiterated that there is full support to ensure it is approved as soon as possible.
It is worth noting that this project was approved in recent days by the Congress of the Union, and stipulates that adults who seek lodging services with a minor must prove their relationship or familiarity.
