Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed that Mexico is prepared for any circumstance and highlighted the good coordination with business leaders and the U.S. government. Sheinbaum mentioned that she hopes the renegotiation of the USMCA will be minimal and emphasized that there has been no official proposal regarding this so far.

Amid trade tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump, Sheinbaum downplayed the threats of a potential early renegotiation of the USMCA. She stated that no such scenario has been raised in the negotiation tables and called for continuing discussions to define the future of the trade relationship between the two countries.

Sheinbaum also reported that, for the moment, she has no planned visits to the United States. She emphasized that they maintain good dialogue and coordination with the U.S. government and mentioned that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard travels to Washington every two weeks to address economic and trade differences.

The president reminded that the USMCA must be renegotiated in 2026, according to its statutes, and urged not to jump to conclusions about possible scenarios. Despite Trump's statements about a possible imminent renegotiation, Sheinbaum stressed the importance of continuing negotiations and staying calm.

In related news, U.S. President Donald Trump met with leaders from other American and European countries amid trade tensions. In a bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump mentioned that the USMCA has been effective but that "it expires quite soon and will be renegotiated very soon," raising concerns about the future of the trilateral agreement.
