The former mayor of Cuajimalpa, Adrián Rubalcava, has been appointed as the new general director of the Collective Transportation System (STC) Metro, which has generated various reactions among the public. Rubalcava, who aspired to be a candidate for the Head of Government of Mexico City, is now at the helm of one of the most important transportation institutions in the capital.
Rubalcava began his career in public service as the director of Government in the Álvaro Obregón mayoralty from 2003 to 2005. Subsequently, he held the position of delegational chief in Cuajimalpa for two terms: 2012-2015 and 2018-2021, being re-elected for a second term until 2024. Within the PRI, Rubalcava came to preside over the Commission of Federalism and Delegational Development in Mexico City, in addition to obtaining a local deputy position.
In a video that circulated on social networks, Rubalcava is seen joking about the relevance of his new position by comparing it to that of the governor of Tlaxcala, generating criticism and requests for clarification from online users. The recording shows an event celebrating the birthday of a businessman, José Luis Salinas, who anticipated Rubalcava's appointment while Guillermo Calderón Aguilera was still in office.
Rubalcava's appointment has been a subject of controversy, recalling some allegations made against him during the 2024 elections. However, his political trajectory and experience in public administration have been fundamental in his rise to the direction of the Metro.
