César Gutiérrez Priego, lawyer and current candidate for minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), has shared a second release of audios recorded in the 1990s that, according to him, reveal the links between organized crime and the family of former president Ernesto Zedillo.
In this new release, the "father-in-law of Zedillo" is mentioned for the first time in a conversation attributed to the leaders of the Colima Cartel: Luis and Adán Amezcua Contreras. Despite the lack of a statement from former president Zedillo and his family, Gutiérrez Priego has published fragments of two of these audios and claims they have been authenticated since 1997.
In the recordings, allegedly made by General José de Jesús Gutiérrez Rebollo, a conversation can be heard between cartel members and other unidentified individuals, making references to nicknames like "rejón" and "Obregón", as well as names like "Fernando" and a political figure called "Montesquieu".
For the first time, a member of Zedillo's political family is mentioned in conversations related to organized crime, although there is no forensic evidence confirming the identities of the voices. Gutiérrez Priego claims to have 11 tapes recorded between 1996 and 1997 that are related to power structures and drug trafficking.
These leaks occur amid Gutiérrez Priego's competition for a position in the Supreme Court, during which he has publicly blamed Zedillo for the betrayal of his father, who was accused in 1997 of protecting Amado Carrillo Fuentes, known as "The Lord of the Skies".
