Controversy Erupts Over Metro Director Comments

Tlaxcala's government demands respect following comments from businessmen and senators who deemed the Metro director role superior to being governor of Tlaxcala. They label the comments as offensive and ignorant, highlighting the state's historical and cultural significance.

The representatives of the state of Tlaxcala came to the defense of their entity after some senators from Morena and businessman José Luis Salinas mocked the appointment of Adrián Rubalcava as director of the Metro, stating that 'it is better to be director of the Metro than governor of Tlaxcala.' In response, the government of Tlaxcala demanded respect from the businessman and a public apology to the Tlaxcaltecan people.

In a statement, the state government expressed its rejection of José Luis Salinas's remarks, deeming them inappropriate and offensive to the tlaxcaltecas, emphasizing that they demonstrate a reductionist and poorly informed view on the historical, cultural, and social importance of the state. Furthermore, it called against racism and classism in Mexico.

"His lack of respect compels me to demand a public apology for Tlaxcala," stated the Morena senator in reaction to the mocks. Following Rubalcava's appointment as Metro director, a video was circulated in which senators from Morena and the PT mocked this decision during the celebration of José Luis Salinas's birthday.

The businessman initiated the mocking by comparing the position of Metro director with that of governor of Tlaxcala. It is noteworthy that the Government of Mexico City announced that the former director, Guillermo Calderón, will continue as an advisor in Mobility and will complete the work on Line 1 of the Metro.

In response to the criticisms, Ana Lilia Rivera, senator, lamented the unfortunate comment from José Luis Salinas, labeling it as ignorant, mediocre, and derogatory. Rivera joined the call for a public apology for Tlaxcala and emphasized the cultural greatness of the state.
