The permanent commission of Congress resumed the debate on the telecommunications law proposed by the government. In response to the criticisms and complaints from the opposition regarding article 142, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the 4T will eliminate said article, emphasizing that its goal is not to promote censorship.

In her press conference, Sheinbaum stated: "I did not come to the presidency to promote censorship," adding that the new law aims to strengthen freedom of expression, as well as the rights of audiences and competition in the telecommunications sector.

The telecommunications law promoted by the 4T initially received criticism from the opposition, which accused it of fostering censorship and control of communications. In light of this, Sheinbaum decided to postpone the discussion of the law to remove article 142, which generated controversy among the PRI, PAN, and Movimiento Ciudadano.

The president announced the exclusion of article 142 from the law and anticipated that José Merino, head of the Digital Transformation Agency, will explain the details of the legislative initiative in the upcoming days at the morning conference. The law is expected to be approved this month in both chambers of Congress.
