Clashes Erupt During Vehicle Theft Crackdown

A confrontation occurred in Valle de Chalco between security authorities and merchants during a major anti-theft operation targeting illegal businesses involved in vehicle parts sales. Police arrested individuals amid the unrest.


Clashes Erupt During Vehicle Theft Crackdown

Within the framework of the Metropolitan Strategy against Vehicle and Auto Parts Theft, authorities from Mexico City and the State of Mexico carried out a series of raids at various locations in both entities. In the Cuauhtémoc and Iztapalapa boroughs of Mexico City, as well as in several municipalities of the State of Mexico, simultaneous operational actions were executed.

The Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City, Licenciado Pablo Vázquez Camacho, along with the Undersecretary of Police Operations, monitored the actions from a SSC Condors helicopter. The authorities received support from various agencies such as DEFENSE, SEMAR, and GN.

During the raids, stolen auto parts whose legitimate origin could not be verified were secured, as well as vehicles with altered documents and the detention of individuals suspected of being involved in criminal activities.

As part of the Metropolitan Strategy against Vehicle Theft, actions were carried out in boroughs of Mexico City and municipalities of the State of Mexico such as Almoloya de Juárez, Ecatepec, Toluca, among others. However, during 'Operation Fortaleza' in Chalco, State of Mexico, authorities faced merchants who opposed security efforts.

After a shootout in which SSC and FGJ elements from Mexico City, as well as the Prosecutor's Office and SS from the State of Mexico were attacked by merchants, three people were arrested. This action aimed to dismantle businesses operating irregularly in the area.

Operation Fortaleza is part of the Joint Strategy against Vehicle Theft between Mexico City and the State of Mexico. Throughout the afternoon, 80 investigative techniques were carried out in two boroughs and 17 municipalities, with simultaneous operations in both entities to combat this type of crime.
