President Claudia Sheinbaum rejected this Wednesday the sanctions issued by the United States government for canceling routes to the US from AIFA operated by three Mexican airlines. During her morning press conference, she informed that she asked Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente to communicate with Secretary of State Marco Rubio to organize a meeting with the corresponding authorities and jointly analyze this situation. The president was emphatic that, from her government's perspective, these actions have no foundation whatsoever. 'They are making the decision unilaterally, it cannot be that there is some other interest,' suggested the president. Sheinbaum also lashed out that 'Mexico is not a piñata for anyone' and assured that so far they have achieved 'a great deal of respect' from various US entities, emphasizing the dialogue with President Donald Trump and the agreements reached, which include the postponement of the tariff threat for this November 1st. She denied that the competition of US airlines is being violated, although she said that the issue will be reviewed. She also announced that this Friday she will have a meeting with the affected Mexican companies. 'We want respect and for it to be analyzed, in any case, jointly,' she insisted.
