Mario Delgado's Future in Mexican Government Uncertain

The future of the current Secretary of Education, Mario Delgado, in the federal cabinet is not assured. The former president of Morena is under various pressures to leave his post due to his alleged ties to Sergio Carmona, known as "the king of huachicol," and demands from the United States to take action against politicians with possible criminal ties. In this way, the president could remove him from her cabinet, reducing the spotlight on the tensions surrounding him; but at the same time, secure a share of power for him by offering him the chance to govern a state. Due to delays in meeting goals, there is again talk of Romero's departure from Infonavit at the presidential palace. However, the same sources indicate that Mario Delgado would likely resist this offer, as he has no intention of becoming the governor of Colima, instead seeking to regain ground in the federal cabinet with a possible new position. This is not a minor issue, as it is one of the strongest demands from the United States against the Mexican government, which demands progress against the political and electoral ties of organized crime. In this scenario, official sources from the federal government suggest that Mario Delgado could be a candidate for governor of Colima in the 2027 elections, considering that despite living in Mexico City, he was born in the coastal state. Because of this, some figures in the ruling party already view him as a candidate for governor of Colima, a position he seeks to avoid, for which he simultaneously promotes César Yáñez. Mario Delgado's role in the federal cabinet has been questioned since the beginning of Claudia Sheinbaum's current administration. Like Delgado, he built most of his political career in the national capital, but he was born in the state now governed by the Morena member Indira Vizcaíno Silva. The state of Colima may not seem to represent much power at first glance, as it has only 730,000 inhabitants. Considering the policy deployed by Omar García Harfuch, the decision regarding the state could take on greater relevance than expected. However, the head of state entrusted him with the Secretariat of Education, a position with little influence or prestige for the ambitions of the former deputy. The extradition of Álvarez Puga is causing concern in Verde and complicating agreements with the 4T; to this are now added the complaints against him for his alleged ties to "the king of huachicol," Sergio Carmona, who was shot dead in Nuevo León and who would have funded Morena campaigns led by Delgado himself. After commanding the strategy that allowed Morena to win across almost the entire country, the former pink leader aspired to a position of maximum relevance, such as the Secretariat of the Interior. For this, the Secretary of Education would promote the current Undersecretary of the Interior, César Yáñez, for that post. However, he plays an important role in the security strategy due to having the port of Manzanillo, the most important in the country and one of the hotspots in the fight against organized crime and fentanyl trafficking, as it is believed that its customs is where the chemical precursors used to artificially manufacture the drug enter.
