Mexican Deputy Denies Salary Increase Rumors

Ricardo Monreal Ávila stated that deputies' salaries will not be increased. 'And no, it's not like that, you will see for yourselves. There is no increase, and the four thousand pesos that deputies receive, from 74 to 79, started as of this January. There is no increase and there will be no increase,' declared Monreal Ávila. He also assured that federal deputies will continue to receive between 74 and 79 thousand pesos net monthly, denying the existence of any 'compensatory increase.' These statements, made during the inauguration of the 4th University Parliamentary Model of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico-Amecameca, aim to strengthen civic education and foster a democratic vision from university classrooms. On Friday, several national media outlets reported that while the Congress of the Union approved tax increases on soft drinks, public services, and debt, federal deputies secured an annual salary increase of 113 thousand pesos. This is due to the sum for each of the 500 members of the Chamber of Deputies, with their net annual income increasing from 1 million 193 thousand 485 pesos to 1 million 307 thousand 224 pesos in the draft budget resolution for the Federation's Expenditure Budget 2026. According to Excélsior, this increase includes a 'compensatory support' for the payment of ISR on the bonus, which rises from 64 thousand 587 to 67 thousand 785 pesos. In response, Deputy Ricardo Monreal denied that the salary increase will take place, stating that 'there will be no salary increase' for federal legislators for 2026.
