Appointment at Infonavit Causes Displeasure in Mexican Government

The news was poorly received at the National Palace, where relations with a close friend of Andrés Manuel López Obrador are not at their best. The timing of the former Pemex official's reappearance does not seem coincidental, as it occurs amid the violence crisis in Michoacán. This has kept Claudia Sheinbaum and her team occupied with security issues, diverting attention from Romero Oropeza himself, whose departure has once again become a topic of discussion at the National Palace. Due to delays in meeting targets, talk of Romero's departure from Infonavit has resurfaced at the Palace. Lozada is one of Romero Oropeza's closest confidants. Despite the controversies and discontent at the National Palace, Miguel Ángel Lozada managed to move from Pemex to Infonavit with the help of Octavio Romero Oropeza, now serving as his advisor on key matters for the institution. According to sources cited by LPO, Lozada attended several meetings at the institute's official offices between Monday and Tuesday. Lozada, whom Romero trusts completely, was seen in an advisory role, according to sources from the said department. At Pemex, he was the head of Exploration and Production, but was fired after being investigated by the Ministry of Public Function for alleged triangulations made from Pemex with shell companies. Despite the scandals, Oropeza brought him back as an advisor during his tenure at the helm of the oil company while designing the business plan, which ultimately failed to reverse the production decline or provide any financial relief without federal government support. It is worth noting that Lozada's presence is not exclusive to Infonavit: Pemex also claims that the return of Ángel Cid, another controversial official attributed in part to the growth of debt with suppliers, is also due to the influence of the petroleum engineer.
