During the first thirteen months of Claudia Sheinbaum's presidency, homicides in Mexico have fallen by 37%. In this period, over 37,000 people have been detained for high-impact crimes, and nearly 300 tons of drugs have been seized. The government announced this on Tuesday with preliminary figures. According to Marcela Figueroa, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), the daily average of murders dropped to 54.5 in October, compared to 86.9 in September 2024, the last month of Andrés Manuel López Obrador's government, which means 32 fewer homicides per day.
