Mexico: Debt, Drug Shortages, and Violence Against Women Discussed

During a hearing at the State Congress, key issues were raised: the debt owed to teachers by ISSSTELEON, shortages of medications in hospitals, and violence against women. The Secretary of Health, Alma Rosa MarroquĂn, and the Secretary of Women, Graciela Buchanan, reported on their work. The PAN coordinator, Carlos de la Fuente, and the PRI deputy, Gabriela Govea, emphasized the lack of medical supplies in both urban and rural hospitals, as well as the scarcity of medications. According to the Secretary of Health, there was no budget in 2024, and none is allocated for 2025 either. She stated that hospitals operate thanks to federal and state budgets, with the state covering 30% of the total. Buchanan responded to criticism regarding violence against women, stating it "is not the same," and that they are working on creating new effective actions, including developing an app for emergency alerts.
