The rector of the Autonomous University of Guerrero (UAGro), Javier Saldaña Almazán, announced that the institution will carry out a series of recognitions for figures considered emblematic of activism and social struggle in the state, including the current senator of the Republic, Félix Salgado Macedonio. The announcement came after a scholarship delivery event at the Rectorate, where Saldaña Almazán detailed that the proposal will be presented to the University Council to honor various historical and contemporary figures. The rector of UAGro expressed the university's intention to 'pay homage to all social fighters,' a group that, according to his statements, ranges from historical leaders to current activists. 'We are going to make that recognition, even to social fighters, such as Juan García Costilla, and Félix Salgado Macedonio himself,' local media reported. The UAGro announcement comes days after the controversy caused by the recent tribute to former governor Rubén Figueroa Figueroa, who is considered one of the masterminds of the 'Dirty War' in the entity. Regarding the demand for the dismissal of the head of the Secretariat of Culture, Aida Melina Martínez Rebolledo, for authorizing said tribute, the rector took an institutional position, stating that 'each one talks about their history' and that the state governor will be the one to determine the necessary corrections to the state civic calendar. Since 2021, Félix Salgado Macedonio has faced various accusations of alleged sexual abuse and rape, which led the Citizen Movement to request a political trial against him. The complaint, 'motivated by violations of women's human rights,' was promoted by Sofía Castro Guerrero.
