Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the road blockades by farmers and transporters, stating it was unnecessary as the government is open to dialogue. She emphasized that the protests were not related to the Water Law, which had not been mentioned in the demonstrations, and that working groups exist on all topics. Sheinbaum declared that closing roads is a crime, despite the freedom of assembly, and that the government will not prosecute protesters. The President also mentioned that Morena's coordinator in Congress, Ricardo Monreal, agrees on the need to modify the law. She added that the government is investing millions in agricultural irrigation expansion and asks farmers to return unused water concessions to the state. Sheinbaum also reported a 54% reduction in highway crimes and stated the goal is to achieve zero thefts in land transport.
