Deputy and coordinator of the Political Operation of the MORENA Parliamentary Group, Pedro Haces Barba, stated: "We are moving towards the consolidation of trade union autonomy in the public service, as it has been established that by law, state worker unions can organize freely, issue their statutes, elect their leadership, and manage their assets without interference from government authorities, guaranteeing respect for the principles of freedom of association recognized in international treaties."
Following unanimous approval in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies (407 votes in favor, 0 against, 0 abstentions), who is also the union leader of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM), pointed out that by adding Article 69 Bis to the Federal Law of State Workers and Article 64 Quater to the General Law of Administrative Responsibilities, freedom of association is established in the unions that belong to the Government.
"Undoubtedly, these reforms are a great step to ensure that workers enjoy trade union elections with personal, free, direct, and secret voting; also that there is gender parity in the composition of their leaderships and the obligation to account for the use of dues and assets," he added.
Likewise, the amendments made to the resolutions also establish the express prohibition of public entities intervening in the internal life of the unions, as well as mechanisms to prevent and sanction acts that violate trade union autonomy.
During the session, the deputy for Morena, Pedro Haces Barba, reiterated that these reforms "represent a substantial advance in the protection of collective rights and in the modernization of labor relations in the public sector, which will provide greater certainty to workers".
