The president said: "I hope that with the appointment of a new prosecutor, there will be more coordination in the Security Cabinet, as it is an obligation to advance the country's security and pacification."
The fall of Gertz: Sheinbaum believes she won a battle within the 4T and is now defining the future of Bucareli.
Gertz Manero's management has been questioned for the lack of progress in high-profile cases, such as the disappearance of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa Normal School, the corruption surrounding Odebrecht, the embezzlement at Segalmex, or more recently, the accusations against one of the owners of the Miss Universe Mexico franchise, Raúl Rocha Cantú, regarding fuel smuggling.
"If there are things from the past that need to be investigated, it will depend on the new prosecutor," Sheinbaum stated.
Sheinbaum informed that it will be the Security Cabinet that will soon present the issues to be addressed with the prosecutor's office, but she anticipated that one of them will be precisely the issue of fuel smuggling, as well as "factureras" (invoice fraud).
A case that, unofficially, is said to have accelerated the request from the Palace for his departure.
Despite this context, Sheinbaum avoided any criticism of Gertz Manero's management and focused on anticipating a new stage for the Prosecutor's Office, which she said aims to look to the future.
"The Prosecutor's Office also requires a transformation for the good of Mexico, to be more transparent; that will be up to the prosecutor appointed by the Senate," she added.
The comment arose in particular in response to a questioning about whether the new prosecutor should address the major pending issues of the former prosecutor.
She said that due to constitutional processes, she cannot yet reveal his destination and similarly, pointed out that it will be up to the Senate to define who will lead the Prosecutor's Office, while Ernestina Godoy remains as the interim responsible person.
She also kept the mystery about who will replace Godoy at the Legal Counseling of the Presidency, which is currently in charge of Raúl Jiménez, but anticipated that the new appointment will be made next week.
"The Prosecutor's Office is very important, there had been coordination, we respect Dr. Gertz a lot."
Although Sheinbaum did not stop expressing on a couple of occasions her recognition of Gertz Manero's management, she said that she believes that now the Prosecutor's Office will enter a new stage, related to greater coordination in security and transparency.
However, this morning Claudia Sheinbaum avoided any controversy in this regard, but made it clear that she expects a renewal of the autonomous body.
Sheinbaum confirmed at her morning briefing this Friday that the now former prosecutor will go to an embassy.
Alejandro Gertz Manero's departure from the Attorney General's Office of the Republic was not smooth and was surrounded by several controversies.
"From my point of view, it is not a matter of now starting to investigate, of seeing what happened and what issues, but a commitment to the people of Mexico to advance against crimes," the president said.
She added: "The objective is the future."
