The Senate of Mexico has elected Ernestina Godoy Ramos as the new Attorney General of the Republic (FGR). She received 97 votes in favor, 19 against, and 11 null votes. Godoy Ramos will replace Alejandro Gertz Manero, who resigned from his post last week. During her appearance before the senators, Godoy Ramos stated the urgent need to build a prosecutor's office that meets the demands of the times, puts victims at the center, and acts with intelligence, professionalism, and integrity to regain public trust. She also committed that, at the head of the FGR, no innocent people will be framed, there will be no political persecution, but there will be no impunity either. Therefore, she will strengthen protocols to ensure zero tolerance for torture and cruel treatment, and will investigate and severely punish any public official who commits human rights violations. "I am also convinced that the happiness of the Mexican people is possible and that the transformation of public life is built by seeking justice," she expressed.
