In this way, Ernestina Godoy was sworn in as the new attorney general, confirming her appointment to the office led until last week by Alejandro Gertz Manero.
With her appointment, President Claudia Sheinbaum has placed a close female ally in one of the country's most important offices, which was held by a figure who was defiant to her inner circle, such as Gertz Manero.
As expected and as anticipated by LPO, the Senate confirmed Ernestina Godoy as the new Attorney General of the Federation this Wednesday, replacing the now future ambassador Alejandro Gertz Manero.
The National Action Party (PAN) and the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) expressed their rejection, as had happened when Godoy failed to be re-elected as attorney general in the capital.
"This achievement is also a step forward towards a more just, more egalitarian country, full of hope for everyone and everyone," she added.
"Her appointment inspires millions of women and girls who see in her an example of consistency, struggle, and profound love for Mexico."
Finally, Godoy prevailed over her two competitors from the shortlist: Luz María Zarza Delgado and Maribel Bojorges Beltrán.
From the very beginning, Ernestina Godoy was the favorite candidate to succeed Alejandro Gertz Manero.
The victory achieved this Wednesday by Gertz Manero's successor was overwhelming.
According to sources in the federal government, the options for her future include Germany and the United Kingdom.
During her appearance before the vote, Godoy promised that during her term there would be "no political persecution," but clarified that there would be "no impunity" either.
"No one will be unjustly accused because in the administration of justice there is no room for partial actions or actions with political overtones; the administration of justice I propose is one loyal to the principles and values of the fatherland, with no possibility of negotiation either," she declared, quoting former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador: "Nothing outside the law, nobody above the law."
Nothing outside the law, nobody above the law.
Of the 97 votes she received in favor, six belong to the Citizen's Movement, which gave her its support after a series of agreements with the ruling party to improve the functioning of the Attorney General's Office.
During this Wednesday's session, Lilly Téllez denounced the "mafiaocracy," and during the week, the blue-and-white president, Jorge Romero, warned that the country is heading "towards a dictatorship" with her appointment.
Some figures from the Fourth Transformation (4T) celebrated her appointment.
Finally, the former legal advisor to President Claudia Sheinbaum received 97 votes in favor, 11 against, and 19 null votes.
As expected, there were no surprises during the session held this Wednesday at the Reformaya building, where the now former legal advisor to Claudia Sheinbaum was from the start the favorite to become the new head of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR).
In the past, Ernestina Godoy was the Attorney General of Mexico City during Sheinbaum's term as Head of Government and Omar García Harfuch's at the Secretariat of Security, a trio that will now be repeated at the national level with the aim of reducing crime rates and combating organized crime.
The fall of Gertz: Sheinbaum believes she has won a battle within the 4T and now defines the future of Bucareli
In this way, one of the doubts that persist in the federal scenario is to know the future of the now former Attorney General, Alejandro Gertz Manero.
For example, the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, celebrated her appointment and stated that "her career, courage, and commitment to justice open a historical chapter" for the country.
Of the 127 votes cast during the session, the former Attorney General of Mexico City received 97 votes, only 11 against, and 19 null votes.
As explained in her letter of resignation, Sheinbaum will appoint him ambassador "to a friendly country," without providing too many details, so it is unknown which one it will be.
