Political Battle in Mexico: Creation of New Party 'Podemos'

Green Party legislator Pepe Manzur and former governor Eruviel Ávila are creating a new political force 'Podemos' to strengthen their influence in the State of Mexico. The project is even supported by former President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Political Battle in Mexico: Creation of New Party 'Podemos'

The legislator from the Green Party intends to make a comeback with the support of Pepe Manzur -a historic figure of the PRI with great access to Enrique Peña Nieto-, with whom he seeks to create a new political party that will orbit within the constellations that support Governor Delfina Gómez: Podemos.

If one looks at the history of the PRI and the political force in Spain founded by Pablo Iglesias, one will notice that the only similarities are in the name.

After his move to the 4T, the former governor secured a seat in San Lázaro thanks to the toucan (the party's symbol), but now he seeks to extend his influence, aiming to do so with Podemos, a new party in which he would have the majority of the control.

Gallardo seeks to secure his wife's candidacy, but Sheinbaum doubts it.

The president of the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico, Amalia Pulido Gómez, has already confirmed that Podemos is the only new political force that is in a position to receive legal permission to operate as such after having held at least 84,000 assemblies while awaiting the goal of 33,000 affiliated members.

Secondly, he tries to regain the influence and structure he once had as governor, as he believes that the Green Party does not currently allow him to achieve it.

This is why the former governor's maneuver in the 4T is drawing attention due to his closeness and the game he could play with the former president, the man who handed the presidency to Andrés Manuel López Obrador: Could Peña Nieto begin to play indirectly against Delfina Gómez, the same governor who defeated his party, the PRI, for the first time in local history?

In the region, this did not go unnoticed because people close to the new move advance that Ávila would count on the support of two important figures.

The first seeks to maintain power after having suffered the local internal conflict of the PRD, which lost its national registration and entered a legal limbo from which it has not yet managed to emerge.

On the one hand, and more visibly, the former state leader of the PRD Cristian Campuzano; and, on the other, in a more hidden way, the historic PRI leader Pepe Manzur.

In this scenario, the political intentions of Campuzano and Ávila coincided.

This scenario also did not go unnoticed due to the recent trip to Mexico by the former president, who usually spends his life between Madrid and the Dominican Republic.

The now federal deputy Eruviel Ávila left the governorship of the State of Mexico in 2017.

However, Eruviel Ávila seeks to have a leading role again in the Edomex, as he considers that the Green Party does not give him all the leverage he would like to have in the 135 municipalities of the state.

If Podemos manages to constitute itself as a party, this is how it could happen.

This is why some figures in the Edomex advance that Campuzano could be the visible face or the fronting of Podemos, but that the men behind his power, influence, structure, and possible candidacies would be Pepe Manzur, Eruviel Ávila, and, in some way, Enrique Peña Nieto.

Since then, without being in government, he seeks to maintain important influence throughout the entity.

Likewise, the two have the backing of an important figure: Pepe Manzur.

Gallardo's advance to define the succession in SLP encourages Rafa Marín in Q.Roo.

For years, Pepe Manzur has been an important political figure in the Edomex, especially for the power he achieved during the governorship of Enrique Peña Nieto, with whom he forged an important friendship that began to be forged within the Atlacomulco Group.
