Mexico City, Dec 27 (EFE).- The Attorney General's Office (FGR) of Mexico reported this Friday that it obtained the formal preventive prison measure against the father-in-law and brother-in-law of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, leader of Los Chapitos and son of drug trafficker Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán. After being detained last Tuesday in the state of Jalisco (west), a judge ordered the measure against the accused, identified as Mario Alfredo Lindoro -the brother-in-law-, also known as 'El 7', and Mario Lindoro Elenes -the father-in-law-, nicknamed 'El Niño'. 'The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) attached to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), managed to have a judge declare the detention legal and impose a formal preventive prison measure on them,' the FGR pointed out in a statement. This came after the defense requested to extend the legal period for the judge to resolve their legal situation, the note specified. 'Mario N' (father-in-law) is accused of 'crimes against health, in the form of possession for the purpose of commerce, in its variant of sale of methamphetamine hydrochloride, possession of a firearm and cartridges exclusive use of the armed forces, as well as operations with resources of illicit origin,' the department indicated. Meanwhile, Mario Alfredo 'N' (brother-in-law) is accused of the same crimes, in addition to the sale of fentanyl. The Prosecutor's Office did not specify in which penitentiary they will remain confined during the criminal process against them for various crimes, in which -it clarified- they are presumed innocent. However, a day before it was reported that the accused had been transferred to the Puente Grande prison, in the state of Jalisco. Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, leader of Los Chapitos along with three of his brothers, is one of the priority targets of the United States government, where he faces federal charges for drug trafficking and conspiracy to traffic fentanyl. Los Chapitos is a faction of the Sinaloa cartel, one of the six Mexican cartels that the U.S. designated as terrorists last February, along with the Jalisco New Generation (CJNG), the Northeast, the Gulf, the United Cartels and the New Mexican Family.
