Mexico Repatriates Bodies of Victims from Texas Airplane Crash

On this Friday in January, the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) repatriated the bodies of six Mexicans, including a minor, who died in an airplane accident in Galveston, Texas, confirmed the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum. “The remains are already here (in Mexico). And there will even be a tribute to the marines,” noted the head of state during her morning press conference. According to the information, at noon on Thursday, the Navy plane landed at Scholes International Airport to begin the procedures for body delivery and to initiate the investigation into what happened. This Friday morning, the bodies of the six victims were loaded onto an official aircraft for their return to Mexico and delivery to their families. On December 22, an aircraft from the Secretariat of the Navy crashed into Galveston Bay (Texas, USA) shortly before reaching its destination. The plane, a light twin-engine transport, was carrying four members of the Mexican Navy and four civilians, including a minor with severe burns, who was being transferred from Campeche (southeast Mexico) to the Shriner's pediatric hospital in Galveston in collaboration with the Michou and Mau Foundation, dedicated to assisting minors with severe burns. The plane took off from Mérida, in the Mexican state of Yucatán, and was heading to Galveston Scholes International Airport, about 80 kilometers southeast of Houston, according to the flight tracking website FlightRadar24. Other witnesses have stated that at the time of the accident, visibility in the area was very low due to fog, which is why it is believed that the accident may have occurred.
