Mexican Chamber of Deputies President Calls for Inclusive Electoral Reform

Kenia López Rabadán, president of the Chamber of Deputies, called on the federal government to act with statesmanship and vision in the upcoming political-electoral reform process. In a message shared on social networks, the deputy from the National Action Party (PAN) emphasized that the reform must represent all Mexicans, not just those who voted for the ruling coalition. 'I call on the government and its majority to act with statesmanship and vision in this political-electoral reform process that is about to begin. Thinking of a reform that only includes the majority's point of view would leave out 46% of Mexicans who did NOT vote for them,' she stated. She added that all democracies are perfectible, and an electoral reform should serve to advance, not to go backward. López Rabadán stressed that the legitimacy of such a reform lies in its ability to bring together all voices across the political spectrum, warning that the parties in the governing coalition (Morena, Verde, and PT) currently represent 54% of voters, leaving a significant portion of the population that must be heard. Finally, she noted that this discussion is an opportunity to leave a better democracy for future generations, saying that failing to seize it would be a tragedy for the country.
