Mexico continues to face a persistent problem of violence against law enforcement officers. According to the organization Causa en Común, 11 police officers were killed in the country during the first 15 days of 2026. While this figure is lower than the 19 homicides recorded in the same period in 2025, the issue remains systemic across various regions. Michoacán recorded the highest number of killings in the first half of January with four cases, followed by Morelos with three. Causa en Común reported that 348 police officers were killed throughout 2025 in Mexico, which averages to nearly one officer killed per day. In the 14-month period from October 2024 to December 2025, covering the initial term of President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration, at least 442 attacks on security forces were documented. In response, the civil organization urges authorities to strengthen police professionalization, improve working conditions, and enhance investigations to reduce impunity for crimes against security personnel.
