The Mexican government has handed over to the United States 37 'operators of criminal organizations that represented a real threat to the country's security,' reported Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch. The official stated that the action was carried out in accordance with the National Security Law and bilateral cooperation mechanisms, with full respect for national sovereignty. The communication indicates that 'at the request of the United States Department of Justice,' the death penalty will not be sought for these individuals. The 37 individuals were transported to the cities of Washington, Houston, New York, Pennsylvania, San Antonio, and San Diego aboard seven military aircraft. García Harfuch affirmed that with this transfer, a total of 92 high-impact criminals have been sent to the United States during this administration, who 'will no longer be able to generate violence in our country.' Among those sent are several high-ranking members of drug cartels. For example, Armando Gómez Núñez, alias 'Delta 1', leader of 'Los Deltas' belonging to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was captured just on Thursday, January 15, and has now been transferred to Houston, Texas. The federal government informed that, unlike the extradition process, these individuals were sent to the United States without judicial guarantees, where they already have open criminal proceedings. Retired minister José Ramón Cossío has criticized the Mexican government's decision to expel 29 drug lords to the United States without following proper legal procedures on the program 'Aristegui en Vivo', arguing that it violates the Mexican legal order.
