Two of Six Kidnapped Tourists Rescued in Mazatlán

Security forces in Sinaloa announced the rescue of two of the six tourists who were reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday in Mazatlán. Through social media, the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat reported that last Tuesday they received a report about the alleged "illegal deprivation of liberty" of four men, one woman, and a girl. For now, agents located the woman and the girl in the El Habal community in Mazatlán, while the four men remain missing. According to local media, the individuals in question are tourists who disappeared in Cerritos, a coastal location north of the city, where a mobile phone of the missing was found. The search operation continues to find the remaining four people, whose identity has not been disclosed. "The Inter-institutional Group will continue to carry out investigation and reconnaissance work in the area to locate the four males who remain deprived of liberty," the department emphasized. These events occur weeks after the disappearance of 10 miners from a Canadian company, who are still missing and authorities continue the search. Investigators pointed out that in the area where this event occurred, for which at least four people have already been detained, a cell of Los Chapitos, a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel, operates, which would be behind the disappearance of the workers. The same cartel is accused of shooting at two state deputies from the Citizen Movement (MC) in another recent incident in Sinaloa. In less than a week, the government of Mexico has deployed nearly 2,800 military, security, and ministerial agents to reinforce the security of one of the states that is experiencing an acute security crisis caused by an internal feud between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, which the United States declared a terrorist group last year.
