Ex-Official Accuses President's Communications Chief of Corruption

A former presidential legal advisor's book reveals a conflict of interest, suggesting over 2.8 billion pesos were funneled to a party newspaper through a company linked to the head of presidential communications.

Ex-Official Accuses President's Communications Chief of Corruption

A new excerpt from the publication, titled 'Ramírez's Media,' the former official accuses the then head of communication for President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of having benefited the pro-Morena newspaper Regeneración, owned by Guillermo Llaguno, one of his main partners in the communications world, by over 2,800 million pesos. The book published by Julio Scherer reveals a series of scandals surrounding the 4T, and one of the most pointed figures is the then head of communication and current presidential advisor, Jesús Ramírez, with whom the advisor held a deep animosity. The revelations reveal a conflict of interest because Jesús Ramírez worked for a government that issued advertising or financing contracts for a partisan official newspaper run by one of his business partners. The two, Julio Scherer recounts, produced the documentary 'From Barbarism to Hope' in 2012 and, in 2024, the series 'De Raíz,' which was intended to support the ruling party during the presidential elections. Likewise, he ensures that the company 'markets and sustains' the newspaper Regeneración and the portal ContraPunto. The revelations published by Julio Scherer, the former legal advisor to Andrés Manuel López Obrador, continue as new details of his recent book become known. In it, for example, he accuses him of bringing the 4T closer to the businessman accused of leading a fuel tax evasion network, Sergio Carmona, who was murdered in San Pedro Garza García. The same is in the name of Guillermo Llaguno, one of Jesús Ramírez's business partners. Additionally, he denounces that 'the newspaper has received official advertising from the states and the Secretariat of Well-being' through the company in charge of its printing: Impresores en Offset y Serigrafía, which received 'multiple contracts related to both the publication of Regeneración and the production of materials for social programs' for an amount exceeding 2,800 million pesos since 2018 with 'annual allocations exceeding 400 million'. Tension: Esquivel takes advantage of the Jesús Ramírez crisis and proposes himself as his replacement in the Presidency. Scherer's accusations are once again direct and reveal a conflict of interest for the former head of presidential communication. 'It is not just about the legality of the contracts, but the ethical background of the entire plot,' assures the former legal advisor in one of the pages of his new book. Now, in a new excerpt, he points out that he received over 2,800 million through the newspaper Regeneración. Delgado relieved by Scherer's book: he believes it takes away his 'monopoly' on friendship with Carmona in the 4T. According to the former legal advisor, the party's internal newspaper is owned by the company Doble L Medios Sociedad Anónima Promotora de Inversión de Capital Variable.
