Recent government negotiations with its partners from the Verde and PT parties over the future electoral reform are reportedly favorable, especially after certain agreements were reached with Rosa Icela Rodríguez. According to sources in both institutes, initial agreements have already been reached on the most critical issues, such as the elimination of plurinominal seats and the reduction of funds for political parties. In fact, these same surveys show that the Verde party is one of the few political parties whose positive image is on the rise. The formation of a new coalition between the Verde, PT, and MC parties would be a devastating blow to the ruling party's aspirations, especially in the legislative sphere, where it would lose its qualified majority. In the National Palace, there has also been a shift in coordinates regarding the reform. There is also greater flexibility from Morena on electoral issues. However, in parallel to all negotiations, both the Verde and PT maintain a constant line with Dante Delgado, who has regained ground within the orbit of MC. Dante has been friends for decades with Alberto 'Profe' Anaya, the head of the PT. In fact, local deputy Lupita Rodríguez, Anaya's wife, is one of the most critical voices against Morena agreeing on the budget in the local Congress with the PRI-PAN Front. The Verde-MC axis is also consistent. Recent polls conducted by Lorena Becerra, a pollster who works for the orange party, have shown for months that MC voters do not view a partnership with the Verde unfavorably. Now the president appears more open to negotiation. In the Verde and PT, the prevailing thesis is that the president has understood that she cannot afford a setback in this reform, as already happened with nepotism and no-re-election rules. This affinity is also reflected in Nuevo León, where the PT has received various supports from the local government of Samuel García. Postponing the project would be another demonstration of the difficulty in leading the ruling coalition. The same thing is happening at this moment regarding the future of the Federal Audit Office, where difficulties have already arisen in imposing profiles aligned with the Palace, and on top of that, talks of agreements between Morena deputies and opposition legislators to sustain David Colmenares for a new term. Until a month ago, Claudia Sheinbaum had been inflexible, stating that if the reform did not pass as she requested, she would not send it to the plenary. This setup, mentioned in Palenque, did not generate any complaints.
Mexico Reform Negotiations
The Mexican government is successfully negotiating with the Verde and PT parties on key aspects of electoral reform, including the elimination of plurinominal seats. A new coalition could weaken the ruling MORENA party's position in Congress.
