Morena Suspends Party Rights of Mayer for Going to The House of the Famous

Morena's National Honesty and Justice Commission has launched a sanctioning process against Deputy Sergio Mayer for his participation in a reality show. His provisional suspension from party rights is motivated by his violation of party ethics and prioritizing a personal project over public interests.

Morena Suspends Party Rights of Mayer for Going to The House of the Famous

The National Honesty and Justice Commission of Morena ordered the formal start of the sanctioning procedure and imposed the urgent precautionary measure of provisionally suspending the party rights of Sergio Mayer Bretón, a deputy who requested leave to participate in “The House of the Famous”. Preliminarily, it is pointed out that Mayer's conduct could represent a violation of the party's basic documents, in addition to “not acting as a worthy representative” of Morena and “violating the institutional stability” of the movement, among other points. It was ordered to open a special sanctioning process and restrict his party rights. The deputy on leave and actor has the right to defend himself before party bodies or before the Electoral Tribunal. On February 17, 2026, Sergio Mayer requested indefinite leave to separate from his duties in the Chamber of Deputies. The reason for this separation was to enter as a participant in Telemundo's commercial reality show “The House of the Famous”. Through his social networks, Mayer justified his absence by arguing that this type of programs should be used by those seeking popular representation posts to show themselves “in a frontal way and without masks” before society and prove their loyalties. He mentioned that the program is a platform to send messages about the importance of Latin culture, taking advantage of the social and political juncture with the United States. The party commission maintains that his actions could constitute serious breaches of the party's internal regulations, since representatives of Morena “are subject to a higher standard of probity, legality, honesty and exemplarity, as well as the duty to preserve the good image, credibility and legitimacy of the political institute before citizenship”. He is accused of placing a personal, media and lucrative project above his legislative responsibility and the collective interest, even leaving legislative initiatives frozen. Preliminarily, it is pointed out that Mayer's decision generated predominantly negative journalistic coverage and social reaction (evidenced in multiple press releases attached to the file). The CNHJ argues that this violates institutional stability, generates distrust, affects the citizen's perception towards Morena and damages the party's credibility before the people.
