Mexico's Supreme Court has upheld a ruling ordering the Ministry of Finance to pay Televisa over 103 million Mexican pesos in interest. This decision is concerning as it effectively results in unjustified tax exemptions and advantages prohibited by the constitution. The case pertains to tax payments for the 1998, 1999, 2003, and 2004 fiscal years, which were deemed improper. In a decision voted six to three, the court supported the proposal by Minister Irving Espinosa Betanzo to dismiss the review appeal filed by the Ministry of Finance. The dissenting judges argued that dismissing the case on its merits causes direct harm to society and the state. As a result of this ruling, the lower court's decision becomes final, and the Ministry of Finance will be required to return the multi-million sum to the broadcaster.
